Trends: Happy New Year! Oh! How Capricorn it is: disciplined resolutions, lists of goals and ambitions, limitation and restriction after the holiday splurges on both wallet and appetite. In general, Capricorns are well disciplined, have serious natures and are extremely cautious – they don’t like taking risks. They want a solid structure beneath them. A foundation, like a mountain, since Capricorn’s glyph is the dual creature, the Sea Goat/Mountain Goat. It has the chest, head and forelegs of a goat, and the hind quarters of a scaly fish tail. The Mer Goat is a mythological creature with an abundance of riches from the sea. It wants to build structure and systems that will be of benefit to mankind. The Mountain Goat can be the dysfunctional side of Capricorn in that it uses its resources to feed its own personal ego with power, status and money. “I use” is a Capricorn characteristic. The negative Capricorn seeks emotional security from wealth and power. They like to be in control, telling others what to do. They are builders of empires. To their credit, they are good at being the CEO of a super-structure such as a corporation or institution because they are well-organized, strong in the face of obstacles, good problem solvers and practical thinkers. They are very conscious of the image they present to the world. Sometimes this contrived image can get in the way of true emotional response, which is why Capricorn is considered to be a cold sign, further exemplified by the darkest time of the year in which it occurs. Capricorns would worry less if they looked at their future as something to enjoy. They can be over-planners in an attempt to control all unexpected variables that they feel may threaten them. The driving ambition found in Capricorn, if used productively, can evolve themselves and their world to a better place.

The inner planets, Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars are all busy this month making aspects to the outer planets, mostly to Saturn and Uranus. In Week 1, the Sun conjoins Pluto in Capricorn and squares Uranus in Aries, where the conservative is challenged by the new and radical. This aspect may bring up echoes from last month’s Uranus/Pluto square. Mercury and Venus are very close throughout the first half of the month, stimulating communication and socializing. Though they never exactly conjunct, they share the same successive pattern: a shift from Capricorn to Aquarius (liberation), and a sextile (opportunity) to Saturn (reality manifestation). A good time to make things happen!

In Week 2, Mercury and Venus make a sextile (opportunity) to Uranus (innovation/upheaval). Mars enters Pisces on the 12th, weakening assertion/aggression and strengthening the desire to blend rather than be different. Contents from the unconscious may come to light. However, dominating Saturn, ruler of structure and organization, will challenge Mars to set up boundaries and to be assertive when it comes to following one’s own beliefs and ethics around the 15th.

In Week 3, Neptune, ruler of Pisces, conjoins with Mars, furthering the desire for acquiescence and removal of the ego. The importance of Mars in Pisces, conjunct Neptune, is to teach us to use the psychic ability we all have, to seek spiritual achievement and to express our innermost feelings. In Aquarius, Mercury turns Stationary Retrograde on the 21st, so thinking can be expected to turn inward, with a focus on higher states of consciousness, and unexpected brilliant revelations as to how to achieve one’s dreams. Alternative methods in general should be favorably considered at this time; and those tasks that have been ignored could be successfully completed. Unexpected opportunity (Sun sextile Saturn) will help in the fulfillment of one’s wishes.

In Week 4, transformational changes can be figured out by the month’s end, when the Sun conjuncts Mercury on the 30th, conferring mental illumination. Mars sextiles Pluto, releasing opportunities for willpower and extra energy. Venus shifts into Pisces and squares Saturn on the 30th, helping us to maintain our emotional connection with ourselves and others, when oppressive forces may try to dictate how to respond. Trust your own feelings.

Keywords: Structure, Inspiration, Empathy

ARIES: On the 1st, your ruling planet, Mars, opposes Jupiter, causing excess, exaggeration and competitiveness. There could be tension in partnerships, with others being critical that you are going too far or haven’t given enough. But, as the month progresses, the spiritual quest and desire to dissolve into Universal Oneness with your world may be the pervasive feeling as Mars enters Pisces on the 12th, and conjoins with Neptune (ruler of Pisces) on the 19th. In the latter half of the month, put drive and ambition on hold and let Destiny take its course. Remember you are only a participant in a bigger picture. Accept the role that you’ve chosen and see it as a positive opportunity for self-transformation. The Moon enters Aries on the 24th giving you a little extra fire, so focus on understanding your desires and pay attention to how you are internally evolving.

TAURUS: Venus, your ruling planet enters Aquarius on the 3rd, generating feelings for rebellion and the innovative and new. This is further enforced when Venus sextiles Uranus on the 13th, providing an opportunity for you to pursue that unexpected, unorthodox course. Her sextile to Saturn helps lend enough common sense to keep you from going too far too fast. (Be wary around the 19h in particular when she opposes Jupiter, the planet of excess.) On the 27th, she enters Pisces, which she is very happy to be in, since it confers heightened sensitivity and aesthetic appreciation. The Moon is in Taurus on the 26th, giving you a sense of grounding and security in a world that may seem almost dreamlike.

GEMINI: Your ruling planet, Mercury, follows Venus into rebellious Aquarius on the 4th, and sextiles Uranus, ruler of Aquarius, on the 14th. Your thoughts and ideas should become less characteristic, desiring to break routine and longing for something different. At best, the opportunity to pursue a new and exciting direction. If you decide to, it is best to do so before the 21st, when Mercury turns Retrograde, perpetuating this “out of the box” state of mind, possibly causing you to re-think decisions you made earlier in the month. On the 28th, Mercury sextiles Uranus once again, in Retrograde motion, possibly signifying an implementation of those revisions, or maybe making a new plan altogether. On the 30th, Mercury conjoins with the Sun, shedding light on the best possible course as a result of your shifting process this past month. The Moon is in Gemini on the 1st and again on the 28th, so you can watch an entire Lunar cycle unfold. Pivotal days are the 8th, 16th and 22nd.

CANCER: There’s a Full Moon in Cancer on the 4th, highlighting relationships, both business and personal. You may reach deeper levels of intimacy, caring and friendship. There are financial opportunities to join forces with others which will further your career; but be wary of going too far too fast. Also you might realize that letting go of something that you tried to hold on to would be beneficial. There may be a lot of uncertainty this month so it would probably be better to hold off making any impulsive decisions until you have thought things through. Mercury turning Retrograde on the 21st will help you find insight from within. The Moon is in Cancer two times this month, on the 3rd and again on the 31st, with an entire Lunar cycle unfolding in one month. Pivotal days are around the 12th, 18th, and 24th.

LEO: The month begins with Mars in Aquarius opposing Jupiter in your sign. Expand any limits you may have imposed when it comes to expressing yourself and your creativity. Beware of excessive drama. Being of service to others and developing a higher form of ethics and spiritual understanding of your role on the planet will be highlighted, with much opportunity for growth in those areas. There is a deepening of faith and intimacy in relationships and a sharing of joint resources with others around the 19th. The Moon goes into Leo early in the month on the 6th, illuminating a path to freedom and happiness.

VIRGO: Mercury, your ruling planet, turning Retrograde in Aquarius on the 21st, may really have you questioning the bizarre circumstances that seem to be taking place, either around you or inside your own head. Actually the results may be brilliant mental illumination, if you’re willing to forsake routine and habit and try to experience new things with an open mind. Opportunity knocks around the 5th, 14th and 28th. Open the door and don’t be afraid to let others know what you’re really thinking. It might create some very productive dialogue. The Moon is in Virgo on the 8th to help you organize for the rest of an exciting month.

LIBRA: Venus, your ruling planet, changes signs twice this month, though the majority of days will be in Aquarius, not moving into Pisces until the 27th. In Aquarius, she makes long-term growth aspects to your sign, helping you to see where your values fit into your community and where they might be different. Don’t hesitate to assert your individuality. The “herd instinct” is not always the best course, especially during the first half of the month. In the latter half, be wary of setting too high a standard for yourself concerning goals and ambitions. Be sensitive to your own needs and don’t sacrifice in ways that are detrimental to you. The Last Quarter Moon is in Libra on the 13th, when you can expect closure on something you’ve been waiting for.

SCORPIO: It’s a laid back month for Scorpio, with the emphasis of planets falling in your 3rd House of communication and mental processes, and in your 4th House which rules the home. You may decide to change the course of what you once wanted to pursue due to unexpected opportunities early in the month. By mid-month, you will see the opportunistic benefit of maintaining your individuality. Be wary of going too far too fast when pursuing goals and ambitions, especially around the 1st and the 19th. Home improvements may also be in order during the first half of the month, but try to avoid large expenditures while Mercury is Retrograde, starting on the 21st. The Moon is in Scorpio on the 13th, allowing you to express your deepest desires.

SAGITTARIUS: You may decide to become practical and rooted this month, more so than usual. Material resources and manifesting what you consider to be important are highlighted. With both Mars and Venus opposing your ruling planet, Jupiter, on the 1st and 19th respectively, there is a need to desire expansion but to curb financial excess. Travel to visit friends and expand horizons is favored, especially to unusual and exotic places, though it’s best to maintain a frugal budget. Consolidation in order to begin new directions is in order. The Moon goes into Sagittarius on the 16th, helping to create a new an exciting you.

CAPRICORN: It’s your birthday month, Capricorn, and for the most part it should be an exciting one, with opportunistic aspects to your ruling planet, Saturn, from Sun, Mercury and Venus. Big changes are best made at the beginning of the month because, on the 15th, Mars squares Saturn, challenging you to accept limitations. Then on the 30th, Venus squares Saturn when, once again, it would be best to value austerity. See the benefit of working on giving form and structure to something you thought of letting go. The Moon enters Capricorn on the 18th, giving you the wisdom to understand the need for consolidation.

AQUARIUS: Aquarians have a busy month ahead, with Mercury and Venus entering your sign on the 3rd and 4th, and both planets sextiling (opportunity) Uranus, your ruling planet, on the 13th and 14th. Destiny may be at work, forging new beginnings. Making concrete plans for your future is highlighted and an emphasis on communicating your innovative ideas is very important. This month is mostly a mental one. Understanding and developing your karma based upon the choices you make is of primary focus. Opportunities abound, but with Mercury turning Stationary Retrograde on the 21st, and sextiling your ruling planet for a second time, you may re-think decisions you made at the beginning of the month. That’s why it’s best to hold off on taking action. The Moon is New in Aquarius on the 20th, providing you with the necessary illumination to choose the best path.

PISCES: Look forward to the future. Plan new goals and channel ambitions. Mars enters your sign on the 12th, giving your willpower and energies a boost to make things happen. You may be challenged by blocks and limitations around the 15th, but by the 19th, solutions will come to you from your inner feelings when Mars conjoins your ruling planet, Neptune. Venus also enters your sign on the 27th, conferring a heightened awareness as to the path you value most, even if it isn’t the one everyone expects you to follow. Avoid unnecessary sacrifice. Remember: life can be a win/win for everyone. The Moon goes into Pisces on the 22nd, heightening sensitivity and a mystical connection to your world.
